School Aged Childcare | Before & After School Program

Where Kids Learn, Play, and Thrive Before & After School

By YMCA of Reading & Berks County July 22, 2026

Whether it’s before the first bell or after the final one, YMCA School Age Childcare gives children in kindergarten through sixth grade a safe, supportive place to spend their day. While you’re at work, your child will build friendships, stay active, complete homework, and enjoy hands-on activities led by caring, licensed staff.

Why Families Choose the Y

Every afternoon is designed to help kids grow academically, socially, and physically in an environment where they feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to be themselves.

  • Homework Help – Quiet time and staff encouragement help students stay on top of assignments.
  • Games & Social Time – Kids build friendships through cooperative games and creative play.
  • Sports & Physical Activity – Daily movement keeps children active and engaged.
  • Hands-On STEAM Projects – Science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities spark curiosity.
  • Healthy Snacks – Nutritious afternoon snacks are included each day.
